A walk in Old Wethersfield

The early season heat meant we needed to hit the ice cream shop ASAP.  And afterwards we took a guilt walk to burn a few calories (very few, it's hard to walk with two kids and not stop to smell every single flower!).  Here they are checking out the tulips in front of the museum (I don't remember which museum, there are so many in Old Wethersfield)

There are a lot of picturesque views in Old Wethersfield, and for once I had my camera.  It's so pretty down there!  We gave Luke the camera to take a picture of the two of us...which didn't turn out too bad!

Olivia refused to pose for a picture, and Luke wasn't really into it, but Brad was!

This is a really cool church in town.  I had some better shots, but Luke's shadow was in all of them...which ruins the shot kid!

Garden update

I've moved about 50% of the seedlings to the garden!  We started work on it two weeks ago, but up until this week it was just rows of straw (which always gets a second look, no one else seems to mind weeds in their paths) and some mounds.  Now there are green sprouts coming out!  They're really small though, so I have to wait a bit before doing much weeding because I can't tell what's a plant and what's a weed! 

The garden seems to be 50 times hotter than it is in our backyard.  When we got there today, thinking we'd just water I think we all wanted to run through the sprinkler.  It was like being on the face of the earth.  Good for the plants, and the weeds (boo).  I guess it won't be hard to plant the watermelons which seem to need hot soil!

See my squash plants!  I may have enough squash to share with the whole town...and we don't even eat alot of yellow squash!  I might end up dropping bags of veggies at strangers houses.

Someone wants a real camera...

It's not always pretty when Luke gets the camera.  Olivia was pretending to be a dog when Luke took this one (notice her long ears?). 

Here she is a lion (she had just seen a performance of "The Lion King" at her school, so it was fresh in her head...)

The one where Luke plays soccer

Luke started soccer two weeks ago, but I got to take him this past Saturday and I took pictures...in between repeating the directions from the coach and trying to keep Olivia quiet.

He is surprisingly good at running and kicking (also known as dribbling) at the same time.  Though it can't be easy in the dress he wears.  They don't seem to ever stock up on "young kids" sizes and instead give them these ridiculous shirts to run around in!  He doesn't care, just wants to play!

Halfway through practice he discovered a friend from school, Brooke!  They were really cute running together and she kept trying to hold his hand while they were standing listening to directions.  He didn't notice, but it did give him a bit of extra energy (Mommy, I'm triple tired right now).

He has some 'fancy' moves in those feet!

Dino Wild

We took the kids to the high school parking lot to get a little bike riding in.  Luke wasn't really excited about riding in his 'baby bike'....so I took him to Toys R Us to get a new one.  They didn't have anything really nice there (not like Olivia's really nice Trek!)  and of course Luke picks out the one that looks like a little dinosaur.  It's tiny (just like him) and has lizard print (green) all over it and little "Dino Wild"s printed all over it.  But, he loves it.  I couldn't believe how excited he was to get it.
Yesterday he was driving just straight lines on the driveway, and today he was maneuvering around the deck like a pro.  We went for a ride around the block (he usually rides his motorcycle) and he was able to go the whole way...though pretty far behind Olivia, so I was in the middle giving pushes here and there over the hills!

He loves to ride it around our house to show it off to the neighbors...

Gardening Part II

So, we started working on our plot this weekend.  Yay!  My plants have been growing nicely moving from the garage to the deck every day to avoid any cold nights and soak up some good sun.  They are doing well!  I won't be concerned that a few of the seasoned gardeners told me they wait until may to plant directly in the soil.  I'll just have veggies sooner right?  And I also won't be concerned that the book says to plant just a few things so you won't be over run with your crop.  I have about 18 snap pea plants right now...I don't know how much each produces, but I can assume we won't run out of those this summer!  And we won't be out of squash either since I have a good 15 plants already...Hmmm  Maybe we'll be overrun with plants.  But, who cares!  I can see some of the seasoned gardeners eyeing up my methods (Brad and I have read a lot so we don't look like idiots).  Or maybe they're envying our youth since there's a good 30 year's difference between us and most of the gardeners I've seen! 

Here we are on day one, almost fenced in and starting our raised beds.  I make the kids wear their rain boots since it's just a big old dirt field....and they feel like gardeners in them.  I'm usually wearing sneakers out there...so I really stick out.  Need some gardening clogs like the old folks...

Our plot is in the rear of the garden...can you see how far back we are from the firehouse out there?  Yeah, the first day we walked all the way out there with a wagon full of stuff...passed a few older men who told us to just drive.  Turns out there's a small path just wide enough for a car to drive along the side.  So, we do that now, which helps us blend a bit. 

Throwing rocks in the water

A few weeks ago we went down to our favorite seafood restaurant for a little treat.  All the kids were looking forward to throughout the whole meal was throwing rocks in the water!  Why is that so exciting to kids?  I have a really bad throwing arm (laughable really) so I don't understand the fascination, but Luke could throw rocks in the water for hours. 

I had to steal them away from the rocks for a few pictures...which Luke wasn't happy about.  Actually, he was really nervous about being on the little dock, he prefers land!
